The new Fiat 500 will be the “star car” in Melbourne next year, as the chosen chariot for the celebrity race warm up event at the 2008 Australian Grand Prix.

BMW recently decided to end it’s eight year association with the Australian F1 Grand Prix, providing Fiat’s new baby the opportunity to step up to the mark.

The association with celebrities and F1 certainly did MINI no harm during its tenure as the celebrity race car of choice, so this move could raise the profile of the new Fiat 500 among the jet-set too.
