Default Fiat 500 is a Girl's car....

Or so according to this review: Fiat's Baby Is One For The Girls - The Daily Record

But what I don't get really is what the reviewer is basically on about, it seems that he has a preconception that small, pretty things are for girls only (wonder if he owns an iPod), and he just can't get over it.

From the review, he seems to like: The interior, the engines, the motorway driving, in town performance.... In fact, just about everything apart from it's "cute" looks. So why, when he seemed to like all the important stuff, could he not be nice about a "girly" car?

He sounds like the type of guy who thinks moisturiser is just for girls Some people are like that, maybe he just doesn't get it....

I get the same 'girly' jibes driving the Ford Ka -
they same the first 10 years of ownership are the worst for Ka owners

Prior to that I was an Austin/Mini/Rover
Metro lover - another 10 years of girlie jibes

Is the 500 really any more girly than any other little car ?

This is a uniquely British attitute that cars are 'for men' or 'for women'

You will not encounter such silly notions in Italy

The 500 is class-less and unisex - end of!

What is the Daily Record anyway?

Strange article from someone that in another review goes ga-ga for an A3 cabriolet .. now if that isn't a girly hairdresser's car I don't know what is. Basically if the guy feels emasculated because he is driving a small car he needs to get over it, or answer one of those spam emails that promise to extend the length of his you know what

I thought I would reply here given that as someone Scottish I feel it necessary to point out that we are clearly not all knuckle dragging baboons uncomfortable with the fact that women and men can find some love for the same wee car. This testosterone fueled idiot is one of the reasons that no one should take the Daily Record seriously. As far as the level of journalism goes it is on a par with the daily star.

I mean, read the article, it is almost as if he has just looked at some other shoddy reviews and put in a bit about his "missus". It gives no real sense that he actually drove the thing. Probably made this crap up sitting propping up the bar at the horseshoe.

I know this is in a different context - but mine didn't last 10 years - it caught fire!!

It was a lovely car tho!

Default Aaaah yes, the new (Fiat built) Ford Ka - my favourite subject

From late 2008 onwards the new Ford Ka will be built at the Fiat factory in Tychy Poland, alongide the Fiat 500.

See www.myka.org for more information.

This new ka will be Ford's version of the 500, but the Ka probably wont look as cute as the 500.
There's the problem, we dont know exactly what the Ford ka will look like yet
.

Ford have said that the Ka will be more masculine-looking than the 500.
I take that to mean it will be more angular/less curvy than the 500 although I really dont think the 500 is especially girly - no more so than the present Ka or the Micra (?)

Default The Ford Ka...a butch 500 without having to deal with those dreadful Fiat dealers :p

The new Ford kas are shy at the moment and never come out without a rubber overcoat, however, the mating season starts in a while and then they will strip off, brazenly trying to attract attention, losing all their inhibitions and by this time next year they will all be happy parading about starkers on street corners blatently showing off their muscles, with a fewmodelling in the nuddy in the front window of your local Ford dealership.

Underneath the Ford kas are going to be exactly the same as the Fiat 500, built alongside the 500 at the same factory in Poland, using many of the same components. Ford have said they will make the ka drive and handle better than the 500 and that it will be more masculine in appearance: quite how they butch it up is a mystery to me (and everyone else) at the moment.
