Default Super Unleaded

I know people have their opinions BUT I used to put Super Unleaded and nothing but in my old Ford Focus. I have my 1.4 500 on order and will probably do the same again as I am a bit of a sucker, and to be honest I do notice the difference.

Does anyone currently run super in their 500 and if so have you noticed a difference in response and/or MPG?

A good thread; I was going to post the same thing. Power increases? better mpg? better on engine wear? Where do you stand?

Well, at the last fill up they only had Super in stock at the time, so I'll be able to report back in300miles or so (3 or 4 days)

Super Unleaded is a higher octane fuel, typically 98 against normal unleadeds 95. To make the most of this your ecu needs to be mapped for that fuel. You will see that some performance cars MUST be run on super because their engines are highly tuned and mapped for it.

Whether it makes any difference in a normal car will be down to how advanced the ecu is, if the ecu is sophisticated enough to adjust the mapping for different grades of fuel then it will give better performance, if not then you might as well stuff a couple of £10 pound notes in the tank.

Super unleaded is typically 10p a litre more expensive and rare as hens teeth in NI and therefore it would seem like madness to run it in a std car. Hell I don't even use it in the Caterham even though I had the opportunity to have the car mapped specifically for super green.

Just use ordinary......or perhaps you don't think fuel is expensive enough already.

I always use Shell V Power in my Fiats and they love it.

Better throttle response and better mpg, so what if it is more expensive - do you drink Cava or Champagne?

In a daily driver that is not driven to it's potential I agree the 95 octane stuff is fine, exactly what I use for my company car.

Most noticeable car was my Brava 1.2 16V which refused to red line on 95 octane but screamed to the limiter on (as it was) Optimax
