Question Diesel 1.3 Vs Petrol 1.4 Help pls

Hi all,
My ordered fiat 1.4 is still in Italy and I have been offered the 1.3 which is available before Christmas. Other than the motor the car is identical to the one I ordered in August

Why do I want the Diesel over the Petrol.

Help please

I have a 1.4 16v but have experience and contacts with the 1.3 Multijet diesel

Diesel better fuel economy BUT might fuel costs and higher service costs
1.4 16v sounds great and is a hoot to drive, also has rear disc brakes

Interested to know why the 1.4 is not available to you at the same timeframe, there seem to be plenty available 'from stock' as it were.

Test drive both and see which floats your boat!

I was going to go for a diesel, as better mpg, however the salesman informed me (unknown if it is true or not !) that you have to do more than 13,000 miles per year to warrant the extra cost of the diesel engine and the price of diesel. As I do ~8,000 I didnt bother. Hope this helps but I am sure someone will put my comments right if they are incorrect.

Thanks for the feedback

As I am in Australia the avaialability is not there. Also diesel in Aust is 20c more per litre than petrol at the moment & no road tax benefits YET.

I placed the order July and the chossen car is apparently still in Italy. The diesel has been offered as the same cost replacement so I have a car before Christmas.

Strange how an identical car to the one I ordered has arrived but is diesel....

taking a diesel for a test spin this weekend shall let you know my thoughts.

:-)

The diesel costs the same as the 1.4 petrol.
I could perhaps understand your salesmans tact if you were comparing the diesel against the 1.2 but not IMHO against the 1.4, a diesel will get around 25-30 mpg more than a 1.4.
Cant comment on the resale price in Australia but over here in the UK the easiest models to get are anything with the 1.4 engine and will undoubtedly have a poorer trade in price down the line.
