Default Fiat 500 PUR-O2

Just read about the Fiat 500 PUR-O2 version - the one equipped with the start / stop system.
Is it really worth it if it only reduces the CO2 emissions of a 1.2 petrol from 119g/km to 115 g/km

I can see the only benefit being on the urban cycle (in cities etc.) where you may be stopped for a significant period of times. In that case fuel economy is said to be 10% better.

Read about it here Fiat 500 PUR-O2

The CO2 emissions reduction is decent, but not amazing, however every little helps. The consumption is a reasonable boost too.

I was just talking to my wife about this whole field of "reduced emissions" and low consumption vehicles. Every manufacturer seems to be doing a little at the moment, but they're not combining all the possibilities. For example, different brands such as BMW, Volvo, Fiat are reducing emissions and upping consumption using technologies like stop-start, brake energy regeneration, different tyres, different wheels, weight reduction, gearing technology... but not enough of it seems joined up. I think in the not too distant future they'll combine these technologies and improve things much further, which will devalue these early "half baked" eco-models, which will be bad for early adopters, but good for those looking for more choice of cars with good MPG and low emissions. Feels a lot like the PC market, you know they can do more, but they'll keep some back for next years updates.

The eco incentives that are being offered at the moment appear only marginal in real world conditions. Surely Fiat could have gone a bit further and gone under the 100g/km barrier and offered the extra incentive of zero road tax ... But maybe that would have taken away the thunder from the forthcoming 2 cyl. SGE engine.

Could have that in mind too, imagine combining available technology with the new two cylinder engine, it could go for miles on a drop of fuel!

And now I'm thinking about it, why limit these cost and fuel savings systems to a limited line, why not Start&Stop across the range? Grrr, half arsed car companies, all of them.

I can't wait! It's the future of small car engines... It's crazy! 100hp performance for better economy to power ratio any diesel could offer. It's good to be a Fiat driver
