Default City function doesn't disable?

Hello,
I picked up my 1.2 lounge 3 weeks ago, and have been driving around with a huge grin on my face ever since. One question, though: I know the 'city' function is supposed to disable above 40mph, but my display still says 'city' regardless of the speed unless I press the button again to turn it off. I'm not sure if that's supposed to happen or not, so I was wondering whether anyone else's car does this or whether I need a trip back to the dealer...

As far as I know, city button needs to pe pressed on or off for the city drive to engage or disangage. I don't think it has anything to do with reaching a certain speed, but I stand to be corrected

I've not seen any reference to it being automatically switched on or off at a certain speed. The good ol' check the manual advice has to apply here really.

My understanding as well is that it is manual switch that has to be activated & deactivated.

According to the people in the know on Fiatforum.com the city steering disengages at 30 mph. However the light will remain on and it will automatically rengage once you drop below 30 mph.

A qoute from one of the techs there aswell.
A little known fact re CITY setting is that it alters the ECU MAP just very slightly between CITY and non CITY (or sport mode as they call it). This gives an easier power take up at lower revs, easier control and smoother running when drivng in town traffic. It's very subtle though, look at this official Fiat chart re Sport v CITY mode and you can see the gas pedal % angle v the throttle pedal % angle difference

That's what speed it operates at, not the function disabling/enabling (switching on and off) completely. You can see why that could lead to confusion for sure!

Erm I'm not sure what you mean.
My guess is that it works like that because. if you were on the motorway super light steering might become almost hazardous. but at the same time if you were in a multistory you wouldn't want to have to switch it on again everytime you crept over a certain speed.

I never use it anyway. Steerings light enough as it is.

A friend of mine had a punto with the city button and you had to press the button to turn it off.
Perhaps you can give this a go?

What I mean is that it if it "disengages", as in doesn't interfere/boost steering etc above that speed, but it doesn't "switch off", if someone is told it "switches off" or "disengages" or words to that effect, it could be confusing in that they could interpret that as it should "shut down" the system/turn out the light etc.

Ah right. get you now. Yeah my understanding is that it stays "on" but disengages. once you hit 30MPh.

Like the ASR automatically rengages once you hit 30 but appears off if switched off.
