Exclamation Wiper disaster!

I was tootling down the motorway earlier today (well yesterday now) and I squirted the washer jets to wipe the screen and as the wiper moved across the screen it began to judder and to my surprise, the wiper blade snapped off completely and flew off the car !!!!!!!!!

It would have been quite a disaster (it began to rain later) had it not been for a couple of salesmen at Evans Halshaw in Stockport. I was nearby and popped in and they gave me a wiper of one of their many 500s as the parts department was closed. Many thanks to them and their great service and helping me continue my journey.

The wiper itself had actually fractured and broken away from the plastic insert that fits into the wiper arm. Very unusual and probably a defective part. Watch out in case it happens to you!

PS Pop down to the Evans Halshaw showroom if you want to seen Funk White (they have two of them) and just about every other colour in the 500 range. I did like the Punk Grey. They must have had about 20 500's their lot.

Wow, I've heard of a few people with juddering wipers, I guess at higher motorway speed it can become much more dramatic! Mine have only juddered once, when I was stationary.

thanks for letting us know!

The wipers on our 500 managed to knock each other, have a bit of a fight and break one of them off. The car had been switched off with the wipers across the screen. When we restarted the car, the wipers managed to hit each other, breaking the large wiper.

I took it along to the dealer and they 're-aligned the linkage' under warranty. Said they had seen it happen a couple of times.

Evans Halshaw Stockport...........................pah........... ..........refused to sell me a white 1.2 pop, i asked if they would change the wheels for alloys off another car and they refused.............i had the cash on me to buy the car and they wouldnt sell it too me...................my business is now with GK in Sheffield really nice service.

Find the wipers a bit ineffective on the pax side i was sat there with the wife driving struggling to see out of the half windscreen that had been wiped........drivers side a ok.
