Default Supercharger Kit for 1.4 500 = 150bhp!!

Just seen this on ebay! so what do we all think?

Fiat 1.4 16v Supercharger Kit - 500 Panda Grande Punto on eBay, also Engine Tuning Parts, Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 31-Aug-08 15:58:49 BST)

sounds quite tempting, especially when the warrenty runs out!

Their website says they're working on a Turbo kit too, and they have a video on YouTube: YouTube - Fiat 500 Supercharged and YouTube - Fiat 500 Supercharged - Driving

But they also claim 10 bhp from an exhaust alone, which is in most cases I've seen, especially on small displacement engines, pretty optimistic. Also claim it has no effect on fuel consumption, which would be great if true.

Be interesting to see/hear more about this for sure though.

I think they mean that post supercharger installation, 10kw can be gained from their system by deleteing the stock pipes and installing theirs, which makes more sense with a forced induction set up.

Yep, with this set up you definitely might win,
Not sure who your competing with though.
Starts with ooh this is faster, then you get used to slightly more power and just end up with bad economy, torque steer and worn front tyres.

Spot on with the touque steer thing. 150Hp is alot of grut to put through the front wheels in a car that is in no way engineered for it, and what about the poor CV's!? By God I pity them!

Gear box, clutch, transfer case, stub axels; The whole box and dice need to be concidered with such a set up. Stock injectors and fuel pump would be at full duty, increasing the risk of failure and the subsiquent leaning out and "death by detonation".

The whole ignition system from the plugs (which I would imagine would have to be replaced with low gap iridium) back would have to be revised, and I would strongly recommend replacing Piston rings with Chromolly numbers, relplacing Gudgin pins, Conrods and Main bearings for continued longevity.

But lets face it, if your serious, you'll do this and alot more anyway. And if your not, well, you'll either become serious about it, or end up selling it for nothing with a buggered engine, bald tyres and a hole in the bonnet where the supercharger has exited through the silly little scoop hole that you let someone cut into your ex pride and joy.

I'm not saying this is a bad product. It's fantastic, if thats what your after. By all accounts the guys at JCracing have done a great job of producing one hell of a set up for the 500, but by it's self you may run into dramas if you drive it too hard. Having 150Hp does not a race car make, and to really drive this to it's full potential and to enjoy it on the road you will have to build a car capable of handling this type of bolt on power.

Or play "catch the engine parts".

I would agree with Gumball and Aus500, you can generally get away with adding 10% to overall engine power without doing too much long term damage to other components. this system adds 50% and is slapped on top of the engine with no other mods being carried out, poor little gear box//cv joints!! still fancy a go in one though, sadly mines not getting one for xmas!
