The point is that every car should have, at the very least, the oil changed every 12 months, as it deteriorates at virtually the same rate regardless of what mileage is covered during that time.
Modern synthetic/semi-synthetic oils allow for a greater mileage on the same oil, meaning higher mileage drivers no longer face higher servicing costs having to have their cars done more often.
Maybe Fiat could have condition-based service intervals like MINI for example, but this would push the price of the cars up.
