Default Mobile phone compatibility with blue and me

Hi guys,
Having recently bought a 500 and been utterly disapointed that my trusty nokia 6300 doesnt work with the SMS reader I am having trouble finding a decent mobile phone to buy that works with the blue and me.
I am a fan of nokia phones and it would seem from the list of compatible phones that fiat.co.uk emailed me that most nokias dont work with the SMS reader.
I need a decent, up to date phone that I can also access the internet with that is fully compatible with blue and me. I'd even get an iphone or LG Viewty but they dont work either do they?
Can anyone actually tell me exactly what it is that makes a phone compatible with the SMS reader?
Also, is there any way of changing a phones software or something like that to make it compatible?
Has anyone any suggestions of which phone I should get?
Would be grateful for your advice.
Many thanks.
Louise

Hi Louise

I have a sony Ericsson W910i which seems to have paired with B & M fine and has read out SMSs OK too. The only thing I have noticed is you have to approve the Bluetooth connection each time you get in the car but apparently a firmware update to the Sony phone sorts this but I haven't had a chance to upload it yet.

Like you I always used to have Nokias but felt they had lost their way a bit and other manufacturers had overtaken them. The W910i seems OK but the camera is pretty pants so if you want a decent camera I might look for another model.

I'd tend to avoid anything Applie like an IPhone or an IPod in the 500 as the B & M system is based on Windows which Apple seems to have programmed a self destruct setting in to their systems for. Generally speaking Apple things work fine with Macs but poorly with Windows devices so if you try and plug a Windows-formatted or synched iPod or IPhone in the 500 chances are it will fry it (the device that is -- not the car).

I suspect a Windows Mobile phone like an HTC might be quite good and they are also pretty cool for surfing the web

LOL at any Windows Mobile device for surfing the web. Been there, done that, bought an iPhone.

My iPhone 1st gen connects to B&M to make and recieve calls. There seems to be some issue with not all my contacts downloading though.

iPhones running firmware v2 and above will connect to B&M, but the phonebook won't download.

Si.

Does anyone have a T Mobile G1 phone and know about its blue and me compatibility?
There are so many new phones out now and the list Fiat supplies of compatibility is so poor, its about 5 years behind!
I've emailed them to tell them that but am getting nowhere and I need a new phone......:-(

I am having the same problems !

Posted same comments on Fiat.co.uk Forums site. My new LG Viewty paired easy, then asked me to do something with the phone book and I got lost ! My old Motorola K1 was superb, did everything automatically and reads texts.

I have also asked on the other Forum if we, FIAT OWNERS, can get information from Firmware direct as Fiat's list is out of date. I have also asked Fiat to comment.

In the meantime, LG Viewty is going back to Orange, as they have a 7 day replacement policy. Would like a different phone but failing anyone giving me some hints regarding fully compatible phones, looks like another Motorola.

I fancied touchscreen phone, with internet connection, with 6+ megapixel camera but have decided to go back to a flip phone.

Finally, someone who understands my problem!
I have a Samsung SGH-900, great phone but not compatible with Blue & me. I was about to buy a Nokia 6300 until I read here that's not worth doing. Have also found the Fiat list totally out of date & can't get help anywhere, it's so frustrating. I can't even make calls using bluetooth as nobody can hear me.
Anybody have any new info on this?

I have resorted to 'borrowing' phones to see if they are compatible. So far, my trusty old Motorola works fine. Seeming like it might have to last a few months longer !

I am contacting Sony Ericsson tomorrow to see if they know of phones compatible with Blue&Me. Will let you know what they say, if anything !

Today contacted Sony Ericsson who could only advise to go back to Fiat, as it is their system. Therefore back to Fiat....

I contacted Fiat UK Customer Services (who were very helpful). Advised that W910i is fully compatible, as has been said above. They inform that the W980i is under investigation and are emailing Italy to see if they have any latest news. Watch this space!

On Fiat's website forum, Fiat Marketing have responded to my comments and are contemplating adding another section so us, Fiat owners, can leave info on current models and how they perform with Blue&Me. Better than nothing I suppose

Smile blue and me

I have a Sony Ericsson C905 mobile. This is compatible with Blue and me, reads out txts and can make calls. only trouble is, there is some interferance when making calls, but I think I have a faulty handset, as it has gone for repair lol

You can set your phone to always allow blue and me to connect, so you don't have to pair it everytime you get in the car, it will connect even when in the boot x

xx
